About Us

Double Nickel Horse Ranch is owned by Richard and Kara Chaves. They live in Combine, Texas, with their four children: Richard (13), Morgan (11), Ally (8), and Nick (6).

Richard grew up riding horses on his father's ranch in New Mexico, and from this early experience he developed a lifelong interest in horses. His desire to keep horses a big part of his life led him to purchase land in Kaufman Texas, where he began building what would become Double Nickel Horse Ranch.

In 2007 Richard built a 100 stall boarding facility, and in 2008 a covered arena was added. Double Nickel Arena hosts equestrian events such as Team roping, calf roping, shows, and clinics!

Meet our staff:

We are happy to have Bobby Kirkwood as ranch foreman. He lives on-site and is always around if you need anything.

We are also excited to announce Kari Jesionowski as our barn manager. She joined our team in 2008, and not only manages the barn, but also trains Tennessee Walking Horses. Kari has been riding and showing horses for over 30 years.

We're also pleased to have Lucio Gonzales as an on-site trainer.
Lucio has 10 years experience breaking and training horses.
